I am a PhD student in Civil Engineering at Polytechnic Institute of New York University. My research focuses on dynamic penetration into sand using transparent soils. We employ refractive matching techniques to produce transparent sand models, in order to non-intrusively study the response of sand when penetrated rapidly by various intruders.
